The Alexander Technique Moving Arts Centre (ATMASM) in Austin, Texas, teaches a multi-faceted approach to spirituality and healing that is the result of a longstanding involvement with the most profound teachings of Eastern and Western culture. She integrates stillness and movement. People can discover harmony and well-being in all aspects of their lives.  The centre offers private, hands-on instruction, group classes, workshops, and teacher training, as well as lecture-demonstrations and dance performances.

The Alexander Technique Moving Arts Centre, under the direction of its founder, Sumi Komo, integrates the Alexander Technique with Yoga, T'ai Chi Chüan, and meditation practices.

Sumi is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique having trained in London with Master teacher Patrick Macdonald, who was trained by F.M. Alexander.  She did extensive post-graduate work for Marjory Barlow, another first-generation teacher trained by F.M. Alexander.  Sumi has been teaching since 1981 and is an internationally recognized, highly experienced, second generation teacher and trainer certified by both the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) and The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT).

Sumi received the degree of Master of Arts in dance at the University of Oregon .  Trained as a professional dancer with Merce Cunningham in New York, Sumi has choreographed and danced for the past 30 years.  In 1972 she experienced a traumatic accident that severely damaged her foot. Her work with the Alexander Technique enabled her to continue to dance, perform, and teach.

In addition, she has successfully managed companies in Oregon, London, Colorado and now in Austin choreographing and performing dance pieces that incorporate elements  from T'ai Chi Chüan, Yoga and the Alexander Technique. Since 1988 she has been teaching the long Yang style form of T'ai Chi Chüan that she learned from Gerda Geddes in London , England .

As a devotee of Swami Satchidananda since the early 1970's, her relationship to her guru and the practices and teaching of Integral Yoga inform all her teaching and work with individuals and groups.

A student of the late Maezumi Roshi and Prabhasa Dharma Roshi, she directed Zen Centres in the United Kingdom and the United States .  She also teaches Zen Buddhist meditation.  In creating Shinjin she brings a wealth of experience and practice together to allow for a training in body, mind and heart.  Her unique style of teaching develops and encourages people in finding a deep innerspace of stillness, non-doing and letting go.

Sumi creates balance, ease and grace in the person's psychophysical system.  All of her creative work promotes transformation and ritual.
